Biography

Henry (TJ) Uribe is a practitioner of the Guitar. He is capable of playing acoustic, classical, and electric guitar with electric being his forte. His love of playing the guitar began when he was asked a favor to drive a neighborhood friend uptown to purchase a guitar. Seeing that guitar for the first time was the catalyst to pursue what he now calls his life-long passion.

Henry has been playing for 16 years and is at the stage of his life where he wants to invest in things that he can do in his 90’s and beyond. He is virtually self-taught; as a teenager and through his adult years, he claims that 99% of his knowledge of the instrument was developed by online videos and reading books.

Henry’s first formal music lesson has actually been at Berklee University where he is currently in his first semester pursuing a degree in Guitar. His performance background consists of street music (busking) for his local town of Cedar Falls, Iowa where he currently resides. He is not a member of a band at this time and is rather focusing on his skills and development to someday pursue music full-time.

Artist’s Statement

Art Defined as Truth

Art is beauty both internal and external. Art can be superficial and deep. The truest form of Art is individualistic and meaningful. It should not be a carbon copy. True art is cultivated from within but expressed outwardly.

Why?

I play music for many reasons. The strongest reason that motivates me to play is for others. People are my encouragement and they give me purpose. I am the primary listener of my music, but connecting with others is the level that I always aim for.

Journey

My path will only be traveled if accompanied by effort and energy. The only way I can progress is to be process-oriented and practice and play with stamina. My goals will not be achieved in the short term, they will be acquired by lifetime commitments and continual growth.

This Day

I will maximize the moment and I must accept today as my only day. I will use the past for reference and the future for excitement, but this very moment will be where I live. I live for today in my mind and body.
